I recently had to opportunity to test and review the Mongoose M 3.5b Gimbal Tripod Head for super telephoto lenses.
The first thing I have to say is that I am very impressed with this compact and lightweight gimbal head. Very lightweight and packs easily. Craftsmanship is superb, and you can tell the folks at 4th Generation Designs really paid close attention to detail.
Check out this short video review.

Dear Juan,
I have just watched your video clip with greta interest.
I would like to purchase a Mongoose M3.5b action head but am having trouble locating one.
Also i was wondering if you have tried to use one on a monopod?
I frequently work with a 300mm f2.8 lens and extender with a monopod often out at sea. I was wondering if this would the Mongoose would work witha monopod as it would give me greater flexibility.
Many thanks,
Sheena

Sheena,
Yeah the unfortunately the Mongoose is very hard to get a hold of, they are in pretty high demand and the manufacturer seems to always struggle to keep up with demand.
I have not used it with a Monopod, but honestly I can’t imagine myself doing that. I would prefer to mount it on a ballhead and use it in a cantilevered position. Search here on DPE for “monopod” and check the video I made about tips on shooting with a monopod.
Take care,
-J
