Repurpose Your Photographs

Learning, Photo Tips

I am sure you have hundreds or even thousands of great photographs hanging around. Pictures you took for the shear joy of taking pictures.

When the economy started to slide, I though about ways in which I could repurpose the images that I had hanging around, so to speak.

In this post I’d like to share three of those ideas – with the hope that you can repurpose some of your great images for some extra income.

Idea #1  – I came up with the idea to create an e-book with a non-photographic theme – a book that folks would like to read just for fun, and in this case, for a bit o’ inspiration. I came up with this idea: Life Lessons We Can Learn From Mother Nature. In that book, I have a well-known quotes matched with photographs that relates to the quote.

The opening picture in this post, a polar bear that I photographed in the sub-Arctic, is in that book. The quote: Every animal knows more than you.

On a side note, think about that quote for a while! Kinda scary!

If you have pictures with a theme, give an e-book a try! Sell your book on your site using Pay Pal. The cost is only your time. What’s more, you will probably have fun creating your own e-book. And who know, you may get discovered!

Idea #2 – Another idea was to create a social media slide presentation (for professional and non-professionals) using images, as in Life Lessons, that relate to a point. Hey, who wants to look at a 100 graphics or boring stock photos for an hour?

The nine images above (screen grabbed from my Keynote preso) are from my 180-slide program.

My marketing/business points, again illustrated with photos that relate to the points, are below:

• Dive In.

• Lead the pack.

• Ride alone?

• Alternatives: Get left in the dust.

• The alternatives: Sit around all day and wait for business.

• Your business can dry up.

• Join the ranks of dead business.

• Come on! Get real about your followers. Sure, you can buy followers from twitter farms in China, but . . . those in the know, know!

• You can also buy followers by giving stuff away. Another pro no-no, as social media experts like to say.

On the topic of social media: I hope my nine slides/tips convince you to dive in!

So, think about a slide presentation that you can give to folks outside of the photo community.

Idea # 3 – Another way I repurposed my  photographs, with the help of Dr. Dave Wilson, was to develop an iPhone/iTouch app: 24/7 Photo Buffet. Photographers love it, judging from the 5-star reviews on iTunes.

Want your own very, very basic app! Do a search on “turn your blog into an app” and you’ll be surprised at the affordable cost and easy. Sell it on the iTunes store and make some $.

On the topic of an app: Think carefully about a name. Make it fun and make it different. Be creative. For example, I could have used, Rick’s Best Tips – but how boring would that have been? 24/7 is fun and catchy – and it actually says what the app is all about.

Summing up, think about ways in which you can repurpose you images – especially in these tough economic times.

When times are tough, remember the following quote and this image: You don’t drown by falling in water. You drown by staying there.

Explore the light,

Rick
