Rick’s Southwest Caravan: Day 1

May 31, 2010

Photo Tips

Turret Arch photographed through North Window, Arches National Park, Utah. Photograph © Rick Sammon.

Our caravan started at 6 AM today. Our first stop was at Turret Arch in Arches National Park, Utah.

Today’s tips:

  • Shoot both horizontal and vertical shots.
  • Include  shadows to add drama to a scene.
  • You snooze you lose: get up early and stay out late to catch the light.
  • Boost the Blacks in ACR (or your digital imaging editing program) to add some drama to a scene.

Here is one of my horizontal shots of the same scene. I like it, but I prefer the vertical shot. How about you?

Well, I’ll catch you tomorrow with another photo and some tips.

Explore the light,
