FYI about the workshops you see here: I have seen Eddie & Judy teach together. I have seen Rob Knight in action. I have taught along side of Juan. I have learned a lot about printing from Bull Schmitt (click here for his workshops). These folks rock when it comes to sharing what they know! Check out your entire DPE team here.

Light Photographic Workshops with Hal Schmitt

Imagine observing a developing scenario of huge schools of Pacific herring by the thousands of tons gathering along a spectacular Alaska shoreline waiting for their eggs to ripen and climatic conditions to become just right for them to spawn their eggs.

Pacific herring are the center of attention as this drama unfolds attracting a host of amazing wildlife that creates an incredible show of nature as predator pursues prey along a beautiful isolated Alaska shoreline. The high caloric, oilrich herring are a critical part of the diet for humpback whales, orca, harbor seals, bald eagles plus a myriad of gulls and sea birds that require highly nutritious fish to replenish body reserves severely exhausted through winter survival.

While the eagles soar and circle overhead, Stellar sea lions and humpback whales cruise near the shoreline before rushing and lunging through the huge schools of herring gathering there…

You can witness all of the action just off the bow and capture images close up of this magnificent annual spring time festival of nature!

One on One workshops with William Neill

I offer one-on-one instruction here in my studio office near Yosemite National Park. These sessions will be a full day with a one-hour break for lunch. The focus of a private lesson is often a great way to quickly advance your technical skills, and improve your creative vision. Come visit me for your one-on-one session, and photograph Yosemite on the same trip!

Topics that can be covered include the many ingredients required for making excellent landscape and nature photographs. This includes developing your vision and creativity, field technique, composition, post-processing, editing, fine art printing, and refining the direction of your work. A key feature of our class will be a portfolio review in order to assess your work and discuss areas for improvement and development. I am committed to the sharing spirit of teaching, an example I learned from Ansel Adams. I pride myself in offering constructive critiques and positive feedback on how to improve your photographs.

The one-day sessions will be customized to your instructional needs. You can choose to focus on one aspect such as just post-processing or printing, or we can make the day a full overview of each step of my process from capture to fine art print. Prior to attending, I will require that you email a sample of your work so that I can evaluate your strong and weak points. I will also ask that you include in your email, an explanation of what you hope to accomplish and what areas you’d like to focus on during your private workshop. We can then work together to develop a program suited to your needs, ensuring that you get the most out of your day with me.

“I want to tell you how much I enjoyed the day Friday… I will gladly tell anyone who will listen that a one-on-one day with [Bill] is worth far more than a week in a regular workshop. I really got a lot out of it.” -William Plunkett
