Canon 7D, From Snapshots to Great Shots by Nicole Young on

This is Nicole Young’s first book, but you wouldn’t know it unless you read the acknowledgements section of the book. Nicole has done an outstanding job in breaking down in simple and straightforward terms how to get the most out of your Canon 7D in an easy to read and digest format.

The book covers topics for beginners, such as explaining the camera controls, accessories you may find useful, choosing the right memory card, etc. as well as providing an excellent primer on photography basics.

However, this is not your typical camera manual replacement; true to it’s title, the book teaches you much more than how to use your camera. Nicole spends a great deal of time on techniques on improving your photography, including chapters on landscape, portraiture, action photography and creative compositions.

For those of you that have been wanting to dip your toes into shooting video with the 7D, there is a short, but info packed chapter near the end of the book that should set you well on your way to making some great movies.

Another aspect of the book that I found unique and very welcome is the “Challenges” section at the end of each chapter. This section provides a series of short exercises to work on those newly acquired skills, plus Nicole has set up a Flickr group where you can share your images and chat with other fellow readers of the book. How cool is that!

Nicole’s skills as a photographer truly show thru the sumptuous images used as examples thru out the book. This book is not only packed with great information for Canon 7D shooters, but it truly is a feast for the eyes.

Highly recommended.
