This image was created in Maui, Hawaii during the 2010 Maui Photo Festival
Chris (the model) and I had been dodging the rain most of the afternoon when we finally decided to use this gorgeous tree as shelter from the storm. The light was a very soft and diffused – and the tree seemed to glistened in the rain. The sun was just slightly overhead, and in the shadow of the branches, Chris was beautifully illuminated. The light was coming from behind her, so her hair and shoulders were slightly backlit.
I loved this effect because it added a painterly look to the slightly out-of-focus background, created with my Canon 70-200mm IS set at f/4.
I over-saturated the colors in the image in Adobe Camera Raw 6.2, (ACR) while still maintaining the integrity of the file. I finished enhancing the image in Adobe Photoshop CS5 using a Graphic Authority Template from their Timeless Collection. I use these templates a lot in my work because it enhances the overall “Antique Look” that I like.
